Role Overview:
As a AWS Backend Engineer at Chryselys, you will design and build the core AWS-native systems and APIs that power mission-critical analytics products on AWS. Your work will directly impact system reliability, data integrity, performance, and cloud security.
You will work closely with frontend, product, data, and cloud teams, owning backend services end-to-end and helping define backend engineering standards across the platform.
This is a core team role for engineers who think in systems and care deeply about production excellence.
What You’ll Do
• Build scalable, production-grade serverless and containerised backend systems on AWS that support data-intensive workflows
• Design and implement REST APIs via API Gateway powering web and mobile applications
• Own reliability, performance, security, and availability of AWS backend services using CloudWatch, X-Ray, and WAF
• Architect and evolve microservices and event-driven systems with long-term scalability in mind

Languages: Python
APIs: REST APIs via API Gateway, IAM-based Auth, Cognito, OAuth 2.0
Databases: RDS (PostgreSQL / MySQL), DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Redis), S3
Architecture: Serverless, microservices, event-driven (SQS/SNS/EventBridge)
Cloud & DevOps: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/Fargate, Step Functions, S3, Glue, Athena, EventBridge, SQS/SNS), Docker, Terraform / AWS CDK, CI/CD pipelines
Observability: CloudWatch, X-Ray, structured logging, alerting, dashboards
What You Bring:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience
• Experience: 3–8 years of hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production-grade backend systems on AWS using Python and/or Node.js
• Skills:
– Strong AWS service knowledge: Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch
– Deep understanding of AWS Well-Architected Framework, performance tuning, IAM, and cloud security best practices
– Ability to take ownership of systems in production and make sound architectural decisions
• Certifications: Not required — AWS certifications (SAA, DVA, SAP) are a plus but engineering depth matters more
Preferred Qualifications:
• Education: Advanced coursework or continuous learning in backend, distributed systems, cloud engineering, or AWS architecture
• Experience: Experience with analytics platforms, data-heavy systems, or SaaS products
• Skills: Exposure to AWS data services (Glue, Athena, Redshift), serverless-first design, and enterprise-grade backend patterns
